During a recession ,it’s easy to get wrapped up in trying to earn extra money , that many times we forget that our goal overall is a GOOD BUDGET ,rather than always trying to earn money.
So , having said that ,here are a few good tips on lowering your overall monthly expenses.
#1 – Call up all your Cable/TV/Phone/Internet companies and tell them you’re contemplating switching, many times, these companies can offer you exclusive deals that you wouldn’t of been able to get before. Always shop for the best price, buy just reducing your Internet, Phone & Cable TV bills by $10 each, that would mean a total of $390 PER YEAR in savings (Equal to maybe one week of extra work!)
#2 – Review your vehicle insurance and shop around. Many times people just don’t shop around enough for their insurance, in my personal experience , by going with progressive over another brand, I saved about $300 per year for my 2 vehicles.
#3 – Check your utility costs, and attempt minor winterization/insulation. Many times, our homes are very energy inefficient, The US Government has issued many pamphlets and information that can be accessed online on how to increase your energy efficiency by about 10%-15% with only spending $15-$20. A 10% decrease in yearly heating/power could be as much as $1,000 depending on your current expenses.
#4 – Turn off your lights & Unplug transformers! Most people don’t realize that many appliances and entertainment units (Xboxes for instance) will use power even if they’re turned off. Many companies make devices to kill the power on them, however unplugging them is completely free!
